Riga, the capital of Latvia is located in Northern Europe along the Baltic Sea at the southern coast of the Gulf of Riga.

With population of 750.000 people Riga is largest city of Baltic States and since the Middle Ages Capital of Latvia has been a major political, economic and cultural centre in reagion.

Every visitor will depart impressed after having seen Art Nouveau buildings, the treasures of wooden architecture, the ring of boulevards, churches and sacral buildings. It is the city of green inspiration, the city of parks and squares, forests, lakes and the Daugava River.

More than 800 years history, Jugendstil architecture, amazing City coulture events and crazy nightlife have made it one of the most attractive cities in all Europe and it has recently been declared the European Culture Capital for 2014.

The Riga Central market is the largest market in the Baltic States and one of the largest open-air markets in Europe and also in the whole world. The Central market is the most popular shopping place for the residents of city. Construction of the market started in 1924, and it was opened in 1930.

The largest stimuli for the development of culture were those inventions that decrease distance. Undoubtedly, bridges belong to such inventions.The first bridge in Latvia was built in 1220, and it crossed the Jugla River between the Lake Jugla and Lake Ķīšezers. The first bridge over the Daugava River was built on the orders of the King of Sweden, Karl XII.
